Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is feeling positive now that we have received some much needed rain. It is so nice to see our beautiful town looking green and fresh and whilst this mild weather is very pleasant, I know we are all looking forward to more rain to ensure a good winter this year.
I have included in this newsletter, some information for parents and carers on how to monitor the use of your child’s phone. Whilst we all like to place a level of trust and responsibility on our children, we have had to deal with several cases where students are sending or receiving “Sexting” messages. These messages are absolutely inappropriate and not only cause distress to those that have unwisely sent them but can also have serious consequences for anyone receiving and distributing them, including police intervention. I urge you to discuss this issue with your child and let them know that this behaviour is not OK.
Some of you may be aware that an outbreak of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) has occurred locally. Whilst I am not aware of any student at the High School being diagnosed, it is worth a timely reminder to parents and carers to be on the lookout. I have included a fact sheet from the Health Department on this illness which will answer many of your questions. To assist us:
- Please let us know immediately if your child receives a positive diagnosis of Whooping Cough.
- Consider keeping close contacts of students with a positive diagnosis at home until you are sure they are well.
- Consider having either a vaccination or a booster as appropriate.
We hope that everyone remains safe and well during this time.
I am currently out and about speaking to parents, carers and students at Bridgetown Primary School, St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School and Balingup Primary School about the opportunities we offer here for potential Year 7 students to join our BHS community. It is lovely to be warmly welcomed at these schools. Whilst it is up to parents and carers to make the best and most suitable choice of destination school for their child, we welcome all enquiries and are happy to provide information and tours of the school to prospective new families. Parents and carers are always welcome to ring the school on 9761 0100 to make an appointment, should they be keen for this to happen.
Until next time,
Mrs C. A Thorsby

BHS Containers for Change - House Competition
The BHS P&C
Great Container Faction Race
Get ready for faction eco-action
What is it?
The faction which deposits the most 10c containers by the Sunday prior to the Term 4 sports carnival wins!
How it works
Collect and drop off your 10c containers – rinsed and lids off – throughout Term 4.
We’ll have three colour-coded collection bins at BHS, one for each faction. When full, they’ll be taken for depositing, and returned empty for more collecting.
Start collecting now for maximum advantage in the race! Grab your green collection bags from the office if you need them.
Want a head-start for your faction?
You don’t have to wait till Term 4. Use the drop-and-go at Bridgetown’s depot all through Terms 2 and 3:
- Rinse your 10c containers and remove any lids
- Take them to the Bridgetown waste depot (or any convenient deposit point)
- Fill an empty wheelie bin in the Containers for Change area – two collection bags fills a bin
- Write your faction’s member number on the masking tape label and attach to the bin lid.
ICE – C11445408
FIRE – C11442047
SUN – C11444659
- You’re done – it’s that easy!
Give your faction the best chance at winning: spread the word (and your faction’s member number) and let family, friends, and alumni help too!
Supporting your P&C’s fundraising helps us fulfill teacher wishlists and buy extra items for your child’s education. Contact us at bridgetownhighpandc@gmail.com with suggestions!
